On May 13, 2018, the Secretary Health Sindh Dr. Fazlullah Pechuho and Mr. Wolfgang Moellers, Director KfW, inaugurated the modern Regional Blood Centre (RBC) in Jamshoro. The Center is one of 10 Regional Blood Centers constructed and equipped during the first phase of the ‘Safe Blood Transfusion Project (SBTP)’. The German government through KfW supports the establishment of the 10 centers with 15 million EUR. In Sindh, a total of 4 RBCs were developed under the SBTP, 24 hospital blood banks received new blood storage equipment.
Present at the inauguration were the Health Sector Coordinator of KfW Pakistan, Dr. Masuma Zaidi, Dr. Abud Bari Khan, the CEO of Indus and Mr. Zahid Mahmood, Team Leader EPOS Health Management. The event was hosted by Indus Health Network in collaboration with Sindh Health Department. Mr. Moellers from KfW acknowledged the ‘Safe Blood Transfusion Project’ as a “success story” while at the same time praising the untiring efforts of the federal and provincial governments. The Blood Centers are a major step towards a new era of blood safety for the people in Sindh.
