Project Objectives

The objective of the Technical Assistance is to improve the nutritional situation of reproductive women, infants and small children in Tajikistan. The project will try to improve the nutritional situation for the target group by closely working with state health and training institutions. The main component of the project is related to the competence development at various levels by integrating nutrition in the curricula (revision of curriculum) for nursing personnel. Main project stakeholders are the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Republican Centre for Family Medicine (RCFM).

Project Goals:

  • Revising nutrition-related parts of the curricula for nursing personnel at various education and training institutions in close cooperation with other international organizations and state institutions
  • Support to the two state education and training institutes (PGMI and RCFM) to improve the teaching methods
  • Screening and revising training material available in Tajikistan
  • Developing new training material (including tablet-based training courses for health professionals at community and county level)
  • Training of Trainers

Job Description

The Team Leader is in particular responsible for:

  • Management and monitoring of project activities
  • Close liaison with GIZ and project stakeholders
  • Liaise with the training institutes and health personnel at community level
  • Counselling and advising the RCFM with regard to nutrition
  • Supporting the development of an adequate behaviour change communication strategy on nutrition
  • Project reporting
  • Identification of additional technical assistance needs
  • Review of and input to project documents, e.g. manuals

Expert Profile

  • International expert with a profile in Nutrition, Public Health or related education with further training in nutrition
  • At least 7 years of professional experience as project manager and  experience in implementing nutrition security projects
  • Be familiar with the Central Asian region, ideally with Tajikistan
  • Experience with project and financial management, team leading, international donor relations would be an asset
  • Experience in curricula design and revision and design of communication strategies and behaviour change communication will be an asset
  • Excellent English communication skills, solid Russian or Tajik language skills preferred
