EPOS awarded two World Bank funded Performance Based Financing (PBF) projects. In Niger, EPOS begins a feasibility study for the funding of a PBF project and in the Republic of the Congo, Brazzaville, EPOS evaluates an initial PBF scheme. These projects highlight the relevance of EPOS’ health financing expertise - which already includes voucher insurance and community based insurance schemes.
In the framework of the World Bank project “Health Services and Social Assistance Project” in Moldova, EPOS in consortium with RRP ARCHITEKTEN+INGENIEURE (Germany) and OMBA (Romania) was awarded a contract by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova for Architectural - Engineering Consultancy Services to redevelop the main tertiary Republican Clinical Hospital in Chisinau.
In Kyrgyzstan, EPOS launched a KfW Development Bank funded safe blood transfusion project. This joins two other safe blood transfusion projects implemented by EPOS in Afghanistan (Agence Française de Développement) and in Pakistan (KfW Development Bank). http://tinyurl.com/EPOSKyrgyzstanSafeBlood

The five-year, €40 million EU-funded project to support China’s social security legislation and capacity building initiatives closed with success in July 2011. EPOS, along with partner organizations GOPA Consultants, Callund Consulting Ltd. and BBJ Consult, provided technical assistance to strengthen institutional capacity for social security policy implementation and administration.

The Tajikistan National Tuberculosis (TB) Referral Hospital in Macheton, after undergoing extensive infrastructure rehabilitation and state-of-the-art diagnosis re-equipment measures through the KfW-funded “Tuberculosis Control Programme” project, was handed over to the Ministry of Health. http://www.epos.de/index.php?id=1701
EPOS Public Health Postgraduate Scholarship recipient completed a Masters Programme in International Health. In Afghanistan, EPOS successfully completed a project for the reconstruction of the main building (360 beds) of the Balkh hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif which was funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs through KfW. The Balkh hospital is the central hospital for 350,000 inhabitants and serves as a referral hospital for up to six million citizens in Northern Afghanistan.
